The whispering water lapped against her feet. Its coldness sent shivers up her spine.
She gazed out over the vast stretch of blue. The unforgiving sky spilling rain down on her, as if preparing her to take a dive into the water.
As her mind raced, her heart slowed. Anyone else would have run for cover, but not her. Not today. Try as they may to sway her, the elements could not change her mind. This was something she controlled.
She took a step into the water. Memories of loved ones walked through her mind, but she let them pass without a second thought.
The sea reached up to her waist. She set her hands on the surface and imagined that she was the one conducting the waves. Telling them how high to rise or at what pace to flow.
She lifted her head to the sky with a face as serene as an angel. Her eyes closed. She let her mind wander as it memorized the feeling of the rain splashing against her.
It’s ok to be afraid.
She walked out a little further and fell beneath the welcoming waves, never to rise again.
