In the end I felt your heart. It sounded like a drum in the night.
Through the pale morning light I watched your eyes.
They studied every move of the sky.
You pulled me closer and whispered: This is how the world should end.
Just you and I floating here. Careful not to stir the sun.
You rest your head upon me.
I feel your dreams burst from their tomb.
They paint the land with vibrant life. How I wish to drown in the color.
As we rise the heavens darken.
Rain pours down and covers all.
You look up to the weeping sky. The water drips along your cheeks.
I beg and plead you not to go.
Let this moment live forever.
You smile and kiss my trembling lips.
This is not goodbye, my love.
Left alone, I pray to the night.
Please return my love to my sight.
Her light and grace, her joy and peace.
She’s the tide that washes me ashore.
She’s the island in my soul.
